The problem with this this type of project or any documentary is that the people taking part must be appealing to the audience either you love them or you hate them or sometimes both but they need to be entertaining. The issue is I can find plenty of poker players but none with who work well on screen as soon as they are in front of a camera they struggle to communicate naturally.
I'll have to make a decision soon on whether to use actors and have them pretend to be poker players but still try and give the appearance of a real documentary. This will mostly be done by having the poker players around but not in the actual project. The other issue I have is one of the participants has a gambling problem and keeps disappearing and not answering his calls this could become a real issue if all the footage is me listening to his answer phone. The other participant who is the maths genius who is saving for university has not contacted me so still unsure whether he will take part.
Im going to do some test footage with the actors this week, with them as poker players. Im going to use real situations and scenarios to give some sense of authenticity.
