I am a currently working towards my BA (Hons) Degree in Moving Image. My passion in filming and editing and would like to make a career from this.
My background is that I have previously done a HND in TV, Video and Film and then did free jobs as a runner and assistant roles hoping this would lead to a job. unfortunately this did not happen and I ended up going setting up a partnership with a friend in video production, this lasted two years (80% of partnerships fail in the first three years). The best pieces of advice I can give is 1. Don't go into business with a friend. 2. Never ever go into business with a friend.
The business struggled and we ended up doing wedding videos and live shows (pantomines etc.) This for me was never the path I wanted in the industry and we were not making much money so I left the business and did some freelancing work before deciding to go back and get my degree.
Just as a final word on the weddings. I have nothing against the people out there that make a living from filming weddings, some are to a very high standard and some are not, but I promise I will never never never do another wedding after filming one to two weddings a week for six months for two years I am done so I take my hat off to those out there who enjoy it and make quality videos.
